“A self that goes on changing is a self that goes on living.”
- Virginia Woolf
Inherently, we may cling to that stubborn refusal… to let go of old ways of being… grasping at the courage we need to outgrow our views, improve our values, wake up… a willingness to love, in spite of it all…
A grudge gets us nowhere…
We live in a culture that forgets… that who we are is shaped by what we think we want, and what we want ever changes as we grow, mature.. and assimilate life’s circumstances… expecting our basic human rights, respect, freedom… wanting less of the material world and more of an adventure with meaning…
A humble quest…
Changing our mind—our life… can be painfully difficult because it is a form of loss, of letting something go… it requires giving something up—a way of seeing, a way of being, it takes effort… in order for something new to come—the grey area is the place where we might be uncomfortable… between here and there… but it’s the necessary route.
The only way through is through.
A life fully lived is allowing our new emerging self to bloom… it does not come without pain and sacrifice… not all will be happy (when you choose yourself)… but when that happens, all around you will benefit… it’s just different.
Tomorrow is a direct result of what you choose to do today.
And… as for heart and hope in this shape-shifting, mysterious state… we can look to books, intellectuals, and philosophers to be inspired by…
“If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.” - Noam Chomsky
I believe in the human family… and the adage…
Be the change you want to see in the world…
And a reminder that…
"Whether you think you can... or you think you can’t... you’re right.” - Henry Ford
